NEWS and vlogs with Silke and Ruben

Hi everyone!

Hard to believe, but true -here is another blog from Ruben and Silke! Today we have two videos for you about our jobs onboard the Global Mercy and some news for you about our future, so stay tuned and read about that below!

One of our long-term ship comrades, who actually grew up on the ships, Carys Parker, daughter of Dr. Gary Parker, our long-term surgeon and Emeritus Chief Medical Officer, living on board for 30+ years, interviewed us for her amazing vlogs and you can see the result here below!

In the first video, which features Silke, she will be talking a bit about us and how we met, explain her job with Mercy Ships and you can take a look at our cabin as well. In the second video that features Ruben, you can see the engine room and hear some things about the work in the engineering department.

Enjoy!

Also we would like to let you all know and officially make the announcement that we have departed the Global Mercy last weekend and that living onboard the ships ends for us at this point. After about 6,5 years living on board different ships and in a total of 6 different cabins, we have felt that it is time to move on for this season. We had already decided this a little while ago, but we feel that it was better to let you know now that we have actually left, as plans sometimes change short-term and spontaneously!

It has been an amazing time with Mercy Ships where we have seen many highlights, God working miracles, and have learned a lot, both professionally and personally. We will very much miss the community on board and all the wonderful people we have served alongside over the last few years. We are grateful that we are able to leave at this time, which allowed us to be a part of bringing the Global Mercy to Senegal and to have witnessed the first surgeries onboard this new ship (see below for a video of this).

So now what?

Silke will continue to work from the Netherlands for Mercy Ships remotely as Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist and Ruben will potentially do some further training in the area of HVAC / Refrigeration Engineering and look for a job in the Netherlands. On that note, please know that our designation codes for donations will become inactive and therefore no more donations will be processed towards us – these will go directly to Mercy Ships if there are some received in the future.

We would like to take a moment and thank our supporters, friends and family wholeheartedly for supporting us over all these years. Without your support in prayer, deed and financially, we would not have been able to do this work for Mercy Ships for all these years. Thank you for being a part of our journey, we appreciate all of you!
Stay tuned on this website for some sporadic updates from us over these next few months and enjoy the video below.

God bless you!

Ruben and Silke
